Home Theater System Mistakes

Oh, you’re pumped up and ready to rock with your new home theater system but did you know there are some very simple steps you can take to avoid some of the most common mistakes owners make? They’re simple mishaps that can take your new experience from being great to frustrating and downright painful.

In fact, these little mistakes are so simple you may be surprised you haven’t already thought of them yourself. But, you’re excited and just want to get your home theater system rockin’. Take a look and give ‘em a go, who knows, one of them may keep you from tossing the television out the window.

Record Your Settings: You’ve found the perfect sound settings or the best picture quality settings on your television and lo and behold the power goes out. Now you’ve got to try to remember those settings and they’re not coming to you. You try and try. Well, write down every setting you make or change. Some people even log their settings during the setup phase of their home theater system, that way when something goes awry they know what settings did what. This is a simple measure that only takes a few seconds to do and could save you tons of time and cussing in the future.

Don’t Mix Up Thy Speakers: Oh yeah, it’s astounding and also a very easy mistake to make. Mixing up your side speakers with your surround speakers. Some home theater systems you buy will have completely identical side and surround speakers, which can add to a little bit of confusion when you’re setting up. It’s easy to double check your hookups and make sure you’re actually placing your surround speakers where surround speakers should go and your side speakers where side speakers should go.

Remote Control Mis-Location: So you sit down in your favorite chair, you’ve got your popcorn bowl in your lap and your favorite soda on the table at the side. You reach for the remote, push the button and absolutely nothing happens. You checked and double checked, heck you even checked every three times when you set up your home theater system and nothing. Don’t worry, the fix could be as simple as making sure your remote as a line of site with the receiver. Often times, in particular when an entertainment center is used, there is a component of your setup that makes it impossible for the remote to ‘see’ the receiver. Who knows, it could really be that simple.

Those are just three of the easy things that could happen along the way as you set up your new entertainment area. Of course, there are a multitude of other little and tiny details that could affect your initial setup. Start with these, try to think of every scenario and setting up your home theater system should go almost mistake free.
